Abigail has taught adult classes through Gage Academy of Art since September 2019. All classes are currently online and conducted over Zoom. Beginning Oil Painting: The Still Life

Sundays 2:00-5:00 p.m. PT

In a step-by-step process, learn the methods of oil painting while exploring the still-life genre. In order to remove fear and promote your artistic confidence, we'll address the foundations of value, warm and cool color relationships as well as methods for self-correction and problem solving. Conducted on Zoom, this online class will feature live demos, individual, and group critique.

Beginning Oil Painting: Self Portrait and Figure

Sundays 2:00-5:00 p.m. PT

In this course, students will expand their technical skills and ideas for self-expression through the genres of self-portraiture and figure composition. Look to master works for inspiration to develop dynamic compositions and narrative poses set within your home environment. We'll address measuring and proportion, as well as value, shape, and color to prepare you with all the tools to make figurative paintings. Conducted on Zoom, this online class will feature live demos, individual, and group critique.

Works on Paper: Dry Media

Tuesdays 5:00-8:00 p.m. PT

This online class offers an introduction to drawing using your favorite dry media. Draw from direct observation and photographic references to make work inspired by the everyday objects and scenes around you. We'll cover foundational drawing concepts including measuring, proportion, line, value, and composition. Discussions of master works, detailed demos, and individual instruction make this class accessible for the complete beginner and those looking to refine their drawing skills.

Works on Paper: Wet Media

Tuesdays 5:00-8:00 p.m. PT

This online class offers an introduction to ink and watercolor though detailed live demos and step by step guidance. Work from direct observation, photographic references, and interpretations of master works to develop dynamic compositions. Practice mixing color, blending, and layering washes to build depth and volume in your work. Learn to both control wet media and let loose through experiments in texture and collage.

Watercolor Portraits (Weekend Workshop)

10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. 

This online workshop provides the tools and step-by-step guidance to paint a watercolor portrait from your own photographic reference. Learn to measure proportions of the head and draw the face, shape by shape, to capture a likeness. Practice mixing color, blending, and layering washes to build depth and volume in your portrait. Detailed demos and individual instruction makes this workshop accessible for watercolorists of all levels.

Printmaking Processes at Home (Weekend Workshop)

Sat. 8/22 & Sat. 8/29

10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Learn to create experimental prints at home without a press. Bring your drawings and photos as inspiration to create painterly monotypes, detailed ink transfer drawings, and textured prints with found materials. We'll discuss how to translate your images into print using the fundamentals of line, shape, value, and color. This class includes detailed live demos and individual guidance to create a series of multiples.
